About Me

My name is Abdulla Jaber Ahmed Al Ali and I am 20 years old. I live in Abu Dhabi, in Zaab. I got my high school from Abu Dhabi Secondary School and right now am studying at the Higher College of Technology. I am a sponsor student from Abu Dhabi Health Authority and am studying Medical Imaging.I like doing sports. Playing soccer with my friends and brothers is what I do at the weekends. I go out running each day for about 2km to get prevent my body from diseases and keep it healthy. I also play an online video game which is World of Warcraft in my free time. I like sea food specially if it was cooked at home and my favorite drink is orange juice.

Global Warming

Our earth is in danger and we are the ones who are damaging it. Global warming is the major problem which is about or climate and all the pollution that affects it. What are the problems? What are the solutions? This is what I am going to write about.

The first problem is the increase of CO2 concentration in the atmosphere. This will prevent the heat that comes from the sun to leave the earth which will increase the temperature around the earth. The second problem is population which leads the factories to produce more and more products that even is more than what we need. The last problem is the number of cars because cars produce unhealthy gases that affect the atmosphere.

There are many solutions to solve the problem of global warming such as replacing a regular light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb because it uses less energy. Another resolution is by checking the air inside the tiers weekly to make sure that they are well puffed up because if it wasn’t the car will use more gallons of oil. The last solution is to plant a lot of trees to reduce the emissions of Carbon dioxide and increase the production of Oxygen.

All in all, we have to act very fast to solve this problem to save our planet, ourselves and other species. We should protect the atmosphere by reducing the emissions of green gas. We also have to change our power resources from coal and oil to things which are cleaner like gases and nuclear power.

Causes of Global Warming

There are many causes of global warming but most of them points to one direction which is the increase of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emission. CO2 emission can be from different sources such as power plants, cars, trucks, airplanes and building structure. There are other gases that cause global warming such as methane and nitrous oxide (N2O).

The rapid increase in global population in the past few years also led to too many problems that caused a rise in carbon dioxide emission. It is part of a chain which leads to more cars and vehicles driven on roads which there for leads to more CO2 emission. More people mean more factories’ production to serve humans and more of that means more green gas emission.

Burning fossil fuels

Burning Fossil fuel is one of the important causes that we have to solve first. Fossil fuels are oil, coal and natural gas. Burning these natural sources leads to the emission of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, methane, ozone and nitrous oxide. Because it is one of the easiest way and the cheapest to get power, governments are using it so widely. Burning fossil fuel leads to a lot of environmental impacts like acid rain and toxic air pollution which leads to forest fires. Greenhouse gases traps the heat that comes to us from the sun which leads to an increase in the atmosphere’s temperature.

Effects of Global Warming

Global warming has a lot of effects in our environment. It affects the weather, the oceans ecosystems and economics. Each effect leads to another one. Because of the increase in temperature around the world and especially in the northern pole, the ice there started to melt very rapidly. Melting ice will lead the sea level to rise and if that happened a lot of people will be in danger because many humans live on the coastline. The climate change all around the word, this thing is causing a lot of hurricanes like Katrina and other natural disasters. These disasters will damage the cities and cause the economy of the country to fall.

Larger hole in the ozone layer

The ozone layer hole is getting larger each year. It is located above Antarctica and it is a region where there is a severe depletion in the ozone layer. The ozone layer protects us from the ultraviolet rays from the sun which increase the risk of getting skin cancer. The increased size of the hole was blamed on unusual weather patterns which are caused by heat that got trapped from leaving our planet because of greenhouse gas. Each time this hole gets wider, the danger of the harmful rays that comes from the sun increase.

UAE & Global Warming

We know that global warming affects the whole word in one way or another so how does it affects the UAE? As what I said before, the increase in temperature around the world and especially in the North Pole will lead to its ice melting and a high rise sea level. Most of the UAE cities are on the coast so if there was an increase on sea level it will affect the people a lot and will cost the country to much money on building new system of traffic roads and buildings. Another affect of global warming on the UAE is the change on the climate. The temperature usually in winter goes down to 15ْ C in Abu Dhabi but this year (2007) the temperature went down to 8ْ C and goes up to 13ْ C in the morning. In Ras Al Khaimah a little snow fell on the mountains.

Reducing Greenhouse Gases in UAE

The United Arab Emirates have signed the Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change which aims to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 5.2% compared to the year 1990. To read more about Kyoto Protocol please visit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Protocol

The UAE also signed an agreement with Japan that will improve the economic relations between the two countries which aim to develop projects that will lead to a reduction in greenhouse gases.

There is also a week of trees in the UAE where they plant trees and another week for cleaning the sea from the dirts. All these things helps reduce the polution and the emission of CO2
